LABORATORY OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES AND CLIMATE CHANGE (Lab ESCC)

1. INTRODUCTION

The Laboratory of Environmental Sciences and Climate change (Lab ESCC) was established in 2022 as a research unit of  Institute for Computational Science and Artificial Intelligence, Van Lang University. The ESCC aims to understand past and future Vietnam environment including water resources, climate evolution and earth science to predict the changes of the environment in our country that will have to face in the next decades and centuries due to the global warming and climate change. The ESCC has a mission to participate in numerous national and international research projects. With close collaboration with Southern Institute of Water Resources Research, Southern Institute of Water Resources Planning, DHI Vietnam and other Universities, ESCC will develop interdisciplinary research to expand scientific knowledge and develop innovative strategies and technologies that will strengthen the national capacity of environmental management especially in Mekong Delta.

Scientists in ESCC conduct research, develop technology, and perform analyses to understand and assess responses of environmental systems at the environment-human interface and the consequences of environmental strategies. Focus areas include water resources engineering, river basin management, water pollution, climate change with water resources, hydrology, hydrodynamics, numerical modelling and artificial intelligence, coastal engineering and marine science.

2. MISSION AND VISION

We are striving to generate interdisciplinary research of the world’s and Vietnam’s environment including the impact of human activities on water resources, coastal erosion, water quality and to develop solutions to the region’s complex environmental problems. Our innovative solutions harness theoretical, experimental, and computational expertise empowered by cutting-edge technology. Multidisciplinary approaches elucidate interaction of water resources cycle, climate, and human interventions and support sustainable water resources management in the future.
